Graduate Degree Programs – School of Engineering

The School of Engineering at Universidad de Antioquia is pleased to announce that registration is now open for its 2017 graduate programs. Our wide range of graduate degree programs include master’s and doctoral degrees as well as specializations in a variety of engineering disciplines. 

PhD programs  

Environmental Engineering

Duration of the program: 4 years

Program description

The Environmental Engineering PhD program strives to produce researchers who are able to identify, address and resolve a variety of issues related to the environmental engineering field. Students develop the research skills, as well as the technical and conceptual abilities required to succeed in this discipline.

Learning outcomes

Graduates of the PhD in Environmental Engineering are prepared to identify and solve a number of environmental problems. They can hold positions in a wide range of areas including basic and applied research, the industrial sector and public administration.

Materials Engineering

Duration of the program: 4 years

Program description

The Materials Engineering PhD aims to develop professionals capable of producing high quality research both autonomously and collaboratively. Likewise, the program seeks to foster scientific and technological development and strengthen ties between university and industry through the implementation of world-class research projects.

Learning outcomes

Graduates of the Materials Engineering PhD program are equipped with the knowledge and skills they will need to effectively address and solve problems related to the field of materials engineering. They can hold positions ranging from professors and researchers in universities and service companies, to independent consultants.  

Electrical and Computing Engineering

Duration of the program: 4 years

Program description

The PhD in Electrical and Computing Engineering equips students with the skills they need to effectively identify, address and solve issues related to this discipline.  They also develop the research skills, as well as the technical and conceptual abilities required to succeed in this field.

Learning outcomes

Graduates will be able to use their knowledge and skills to address and solve a number of issues related to the field of engineering, especially in areas such as electronics and information technology.   

Chemical Engineering

Duration of the program: 4 years

Program description

The PhD in Chemical Engineering is designed to meet the growing demand for well-trained practitioners who are equipped with the skills required to foster scientific and technological development through the production of world-class applied research leading to the generation of new knowledge. The program equips students with the skills they need to produce outstanding research work, and provides them with a solid background in the field so that they will be able to generate new knowledge in their specific disciplines in order to help improve business competitiveness.     

Learning outcomes

Graduates will be able to use their knowledge and skills to address and solve a number of issues concerning chemical engineering and related areas, especially those related to catalysis, biotechnology, environment, energy, and new product development.  Likewise, they can serve as graduate and undergraduate faculty, as well as advisors and consultants in the manufacturing sector.  

Masters programs

Engineering

Duration of the program: 2 years

Program description

The Master of Engineering provides students with advanced training and solid knowledge in the field. Graduates will be able to use their knowledge to produce outstanding research and help solve a wide range of specific problems in the industrial sector.  The program emphasizes the development of skills required to actively participate in research processes leading to advanced knowledge generation. Graduates also develop the communication and innovative skills they will need to succeed in the fields of science, academia and the industry.   

Learning outcomes

Graduates of the Master of Engineering will be prepared to conduct research in engineering and related disciplines and perform successfully in both academia and private industry. 

Environmental Engineering

Duration of the program: 2 years

Program description

The Master of Environmental Engineering equips students with the skills they need to identify, address and resolve issues pertaining this discipline. Students develop a complete set of research skills needed for successful careers in their professions. 

Learning outcomes

Graduates of the master’s program are well-trained to address and solve issues related to environmental engineering. They are equipped with the skills and knowledge required to hold important positions in areas including research, academia, industry and public administration.

Telecommunications Engineering

Duration of the program: 2 years

Program description

The program provides students with a solid background in the field of telecommunications while equips them with the abilities required to apply their knowledge to produce rigorous research as well as analyze and solve specific problems of the industrial sector.

Learning outcomes

Graduates of the Master of Telecommunications Engineering develop the competencies needed to design and implement ITC solutions. Likewise, they acquire the skills required to solve problems and carry out a variety of projects. On the other hand, students are prepared to perform interdisciplinary work and meet the challenges facing the manufacturing sector.  They will be able to efficiently communicate and disseminate research findings to both specialized and general audiences.

Chemical Engineering

Duration of the program: 2 years

Program description

The purpose of the Master of Chemical Engineering is to produce professionals capable of conducting high quality research both autonomously and collaboratively. Graduates of the master’s program will be prepared to implement collaborative research projects with peers in other engineering institutions both locally and nationwide.

Learning outcomes

Students will develop the skills they need to address and solve problems related to chemical engineering and related areas, especially those related to catalysis, biotechnology, environment, energy, and new product development. 

Materials Engineering

Duration of the program: 2 years

Program description

The Master of Materials Engineering provides students with advanced training in the field so that they will be able to use their knowledge to effectively address and solve specific problems concerning the industrial sector. The program emphasizes the development of skills required to actively participate in research processes leading to advanced knowledge generation.

Learning outcomes

Students are equipped with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to address and solve problems related to the field of materials engineering. They are also prepared to produce independent research in this field and pursue doctoral studies.     

Mechanical Engineering

Duration of the program: 2 years

Program description

This master’s program provides theoretical and hands-on training to professionals in different areas of mechanical engineering.  Students will develop the communication and innovative skills they will need to succeed in fields such as science, academia and the industry.   

Learning outcomes

Graduates are equipped with a solid scientific and technological knowledge which allows them to design and develop mechanical, energy and automated control systems, and prepares them to work in a wide range of areas related to mechanical engineering.

Integrated Logistics Management

Duration of the program: 2 years

Environmental Management

Duration of the program: 1 year

Program description

This graduate program equips students with the skills needed to ensure sustainable environmental development through the implementation of strategies aimed at the prevention, mitigation, correction, control and compensation of environmental impacts associated with human activities.  

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the program, students will develop the knowledge and skills needed to design and implement environmental protection and control programs of national and international scope. They are also prepared to promote the implementation of environmental management programs in both public and private agencies.   

Water Management

Duration of the program: 1 year

Program description

This program strives at producing skilled water resource management professionals who will be able to develop strategies aimed at helping solve a wide range of environmental issues.

Learning outcomes

Graduates of the Water Management Specialization are provided with a solid training in the field. They are equipped with the skills they need to comprehensively study aquatic ecosystems, and identify the main problems concerning the use of aquatic resources, especially those related to water pollution. Likewise, graduates will be prepared to apply their knowledge of numerical modeling to help solve a number of multidisciplinary problems and use technology for the development, use and treatment of water. Graduates of the program are also prepared to implement a variety of solutions for the negative impacts caused by human activity in aquatic ecosystems, while they develop the skills needed to effectively manage complex water quality projects.

Geoinformatics

Duration of the program: 1 year

Program description

The goal of the Geoinformatics specialization is to provide students with both the breadth and depth of knowledge in geoinformatics required for solving real-world problems. With an emphasis in geoinformatics, the graduates of this specialization will gain the solid knowledge and skills necessary to facilitate the design, development, and deployment of complex systems and applications in a rapidly emerging geoinformatics profession.

Learning outcomes

A geoinformatics specialist will be able to deploy and manage the latest developments, applications and technology available in the fields of environmental sciences and geoinformatics. Graduates will develop the skills needed to identify and address complex environmental problems and implement training programs aimed at raising public awareness of the importance of environmental responsibility.

Structural Engineering Analysis & Design

Duration of the program: 1 year

Program description

The Structural Engineering Analysis & Design specialization is designed to provide civil engineers with complementary training in the field.  

Learning outcomes

The goal of the program is to produce professionals who are equipped with the skills needed to effectively use an extensive range of engineering tools and resources. Structural engineering analysis and design specialists will be responsible for analyzing and designing a number of structures such as buildings, warehouses, bridges, damns, towers and tanks, among other infrastructure. They are also responsible for developing safe, cost-effective, aesthetically pleasing and serviceable structures.

Maintenance Management

Duration of the program: 1 year

Preparation and Evaluation of Private Projects

Duration of the program: 1 year

Program description

The Preparation and Evaluation of Private Projects specialty equips students with the skills required to evaluate and develop a wide variety of projects while emphasizes issues such as strategic analysis of the business environment, organizational management and strategic planning. Graduates also acquire the skills needed to estimate the risks associated with decision-making concerning investment and project development.   

Learning outcomes

Graduates of the program are characterized by their solid knowledge of corporate finance and their ability to evaluate and develop a wide range of private projects. They are also well equipped to deal with issues concerning project management in environments of all kinds.     

Integrated Logistics Management

Duration of the program: 1 year
